How do they make it look so easy?

July 29, 2014

I’m going to go ahead, knock on wood and say summer’s not been treating me too badly this year.

Aside from combating feelings of uselessness/internal hysteria when people ask how work is or what I do for a living, this whole free time thing has been kind of sweet.

Everyday is a playground. I do things like:

  • Open my eyes in the morning and wonder wtf is going to happen to my life now that I’m not working.
  • Think about listing more things on eBay. Key words: think about.
  • Read a page or three of a book per sitting and savor the words in a contemplative, mostly stress-free zone – except when I’m feeling guilty about not working.
  • Walk around and look for/take pictures of/make friends with cats in my ‘hood for a new tumblr I started (Cats of The Shore – shameless plug) as a west coast sister to Carey’s Cats of the Fan.
  • Look at Pinterest and contemplate crafts, but not do any because I’m too busy doing nothing?
  • Watch Bold and Beautiful and fight not to tweet about how much I despise that little rat Wyatt. Why is Hope such a dumb ho?
  • Ride my bike and stare wistfully at the gigantic pomegranates on the neighbor’s tree.
  • Go to the beach.
  • Think of really funny things to write on this blog, but then forget what they were because I’m a. in the middle of a book b. about to fall asleep c. at the grocery store d. on my bike.
  • Tell myself to write more things on this blog.
  • Text message my friend Susan for 4 hours.
  • Watch classics like Jaws, Point Break, High Fidelity, Beaches, Sixteen Candles, Grand Canyon, Alien, etc. and walk around the house ranting about how they don’t make movies like they used to.

You know, basically useless stuff that I always wished I could do but never had the time for.

One useFUL thing I have done is put some finishing touches to the deck that was a disaster when I moved in here about 3 years ago (or something like that). Remember this hot mess? (I wasn’t referring to my hair either, but now that I look at it da fuq was I thinking?) Well, the picture above is what it is now and I’m not embarrassed to say I pass out on the couch up there on the regular.

I frickin’ love summer. *Napoleon Dynamite voice.

NO NADIA!! Please do not cross over to the dark (Wyatt) side! I want Mr. Forrester to stomp his ass out like a bug.

But at least we can agree on Dumb Ho(peless). They’d both be better off leaving her in the dust.

Nadia, this is why I need to stop watching that show. LOL

Glad to hear summer has treating you well!

I laughed out loud (very loudly) at your Bold & the Beautiful comment. That is my guilty pleasure (hello mat leave) and good question, why IS Hope such a dumb ho?! (Although, I like Wyatt better than Liam) – hope we can still be friends :p

Calling for you to come for a visit so we can haul out the margaritas and sit there all day pondering life. Yes?

So, your list? Almost just like mine. This is crazy. And all I do is tend to my shabby deck! WE ARE PARALLEL, AS ALWAYS.

And I don’t feel too bad about losing my job and not really working hard to find another until the nail lady goes, “Oh you no work todaaaayyy?” and I wanna go, Dude. I know it’s Monday. I worked a couple of hours this morning, but they aren’t budgeted for me to work more. GET OFF MY CASE.

Sigh. Keep finding cats. It gives me a sense of accomplishment. And I have sold everything that’s not tied down. On my list: have small cup of Dolin Rouge vermouth with lunch then fight to stay awake all afternoon. Summer, you ain’t so bad.

“fight to stay awake all afternoon” = the best summer activity yet. I am laughing out loud!!

Are you currently watching Goldie Hawn in Death Becomes Her? Gawd I’m so busy I cannot even handle it.

Speaking of parallel lives, if you tell me you’re going to see E.T. in the theater tonight, well, then WE ARE ONE. Again.

    a) Love your patioooooh-YEAH.
    b) Mexican blankets? Need.
    c) cool planters made from old crates? Awesome.
    d) Why WOULDN’T you watch classics like Jaws and Sixteen Candles? The movie I’ve been scouting OnDemand to watch lately is On Golden Pond. Sadly, haven’t found it yet. I may have to go buy the damn DVD. Ohhhh – another ehhh-heh-hexcellent summer movie (one of my favey faves) is The Way, Way Back with Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, Maya Rudolph and Toni Colette. I PROMISE you will love it.

Ohemgee honey, I’m two steps in front of you. Watched On Golden Pond a few weeks ago and have watched The Way, Way back at least 5 times in the past 6 weeks. LOL! I saw that sucker opening night in the theatre and never looked back!!

It sounds like life’s treating you not to shabbily. They absolutely do not make movies like they used to….and that sounds like the greatest Tumblr ever. I love making friends with new cats!

I’m a fiend for coming of age movies and can’t get enough! Have you checked Enough Said w/Gandolfini and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss. I swear it’s the best. Also, wouldn’t it be awesome if meeting cats was a JOB?

Oh, the beach. I barely remember that place. Can’t wait to get reacquainted.

Anyways, it sounds like you’re a great, or at least relaxing and reflective, time. Good luck 🙂

I saw you’ve made a life change recently. Get to the beach and commence laying in the sand!
